Numerous monuments are spread across the state of Odisha that testifies the grandeur of more than two thousand years old kingdom and its rulers.
A powerful region then ‘Kalinga’ comprises most of today’s territory of Odisha and the Northern region of Andhra. Kalinga was so rich in culture and history that a temple architecture style that had been evolved in this region was named after the region name itself, i.e. Kalinga style of architecture...
And here we are... ready to show you the unknown heritage sites of Odisha, reveal some unheard tales of ancient kings and their kingdoms. In this trail of Odisha, we will be visiting some exquisite monuments in and around Bhubaneswar along with Konark Sun Temple and Jagannath Puri. We will not only span through these magnificent Kalinga style temples but also witness the two thousand years old carvings in stone at Udaygiri-Khandagiri Caves and Chilika lake which is the largest lagoon in India and second largest in the world. Chilika lake is also listed in tentative World Heritage Sites of UNESCO.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Board the evening flight to Bhubaneshwar and arrive at the capital town of Odisha
Upon arrival, travel straight to Puri..

Stay at Puri.

Meals : Dinner

Freshen up and get ready to sail on the largest lagoon of Asia, i.e. Chilika Lake.
After breakfast, travel to Chilika. Enjoy the boat ride in this lagoon and have a sight of dolphins playing in the lake. Post lunch, arrive back at Puri and get ready to visit one of the most sacred dham for Hindus, Jagannath temple.
Understand the history, significance and the legends behind this temple and Immerse yourself in the devotion of Shri Jagannath ji.
Return to the hotel by evening and relax.

  • Visit Chilika Lake and have a boat ride in this serene lagoon.
    This is the second-largest brackish lagoon in the world and home to several endangered species of plants, birds, and animals. It is also the largest ground for migratory birds. It has been listed as a tentative World Heritage Site.
  • Visit Jagannath Puri Jagannath Puri is one of the important pilgrimages for Indians. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, Balarama & Subhadra, this temple is famous for its annual Rathayatra or chariot festival, in which three deities are worshipped and settled in an elaborately decorated huge chariot. And their procession is carried out by pulling the chariot in the hands of thousands of devotees. This temple carries many legends with itself. To understand the mysteries behind it, visiting this temple is a must.

    Konark Sun Temple A World Heritage Site, Konark is well known for an intricately carved huge temple dedicated to Sun god. The temple is depicted as a chariot of the Sun god testifies the exemplary brilliance of ancient Indians. Understanding iconography, iconology, and architecture of the temple is truly an experience.

Today, we will check out and head towards Bhubaneshwar. Enroute, we will visit some of the most magnificent sites that you could imagine.
First, let's visit Raghurajpur, a village that has entirely been declared as heritage village.
It is widely famous for Patta paintings. Witness the artists performing these intricate and beautiful works live.
Enjoy some shopping experience as well and proceed to further destination, Dhauli.
We will witness the Rock edict that King Asoka inscribed 2300 years ago. Later, visit another unique temple of 64 Yoginis at Hirapur.
Arrive Bhubaneshwar by evening and check in at the hotel.

  • Visit Raghurajpur and have a stroll through this beautiful heritage village.
    Patta Chitra or Patta Painting is an art native to Odisha. Raghurajpur is a village where every house has preserved this art and is now famous on the world map.
  • Visit Dhauli ...where we will witness the era of King Ashok
  • Visit 64 yogini temple at Hirapu. One of the very few having sculptures of 64 yoginis.

Freshen up, have a good breakfast and get ready to explore temple city i.e Bhubaneshwar. We will begin our trail with the 1300-year-old Parashurameshwar temple and continue our journey to Mukteshwar, Lingaraj, and Rajarani temples.

  • Bhubaneswar is a capital city of Odisha and holds great importance in history. The city was historically known as Ekamra Kshetra. Modern Bhubaneswar city was formally established in 1948, however, the history around this region dates back to the 5 th century BCE and even more. The city shows a diverse range of heritage and culture. It is believed that once the city has been holding more than a thousand temples. Even today the count of intricately carved temples in Bhubaneshwar is more than the entire state of Odisha.
  • Visit Parashurameshwar and Mukteshwar Temple
  • Visit Lingaraj and Rajarani Temple

And ...finally, it's time to end our memorable trail...!
Before boarding the flight, visit the Udaygiri and Khandagiri Caves and later, head towards Bhubaneshwar Airport.

  • Visit Udaygiri-Khandagiri Caves Udaygiri and Khandagiri caves. Partially natural and partially man-made caves are dated to the 1 st century BCE during the reign of King Kharavela. Most of the caves were dedicated to Jainism. Cave called ‘Hathigumpha’ holds an inscription of King Kharavela which stands to be of great importance to understanding the history of Kalinga.
