Badami - Hampi

Overview

In this tour, we are going to travel through the time right from the 6th century, in Chalukya’s Kingdom up to the 14th Century, in the grandest kingdom of history, Vijaynagara or you may call it as - HAMPI.
Badami is a place from the Bagalkot district in Karnataka where Chalukyas set their capital. Its presence dates back to the age of Puranas. This place has seen the great history of the Chalukya Dynasty. They built some marvelous artifacts, which in return made Badami famous.
We would also cover two more places, Pattadakal, and Aihole which are as important as Badami to understand Chalukyas history.
Hampi, it is a World Heritage Site and is truly a marvel of India. Hardly any person would not know about Hampi. This place has been mentioned vastly in the Ramayana. This is the place where it is believed that Hanumana first met Rama. This is the place believed to be the abode of Vali and Sugreeva. Likewise, there are many fascinating tales annotated to Hampi. In the 14th Century, Hampi was made the capital of the Vijaynagara Kingdom. This is the time, this place witnessed a golden era in the history of India. In Krishnadevraya’s reign, Hampi was the most rich, powerful and prosperous capital. Vijayanagara's fall was the most tragic incident in the history of India. One of the darkest era known to mankind. Even today, the ruins of the glorious Vijayanagara stand as a testimony of that Golden Era.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Start the journey in the morning by bus. Reach Badami by evening. After Check into the hotel, Fresh n up and visit Banashankari temple.
Head back to the hotel and spend the evening at leisure.

Highlights

  • Visit the temple of goddess Banashankari. Shankari is Parvati. Parvati who lives in a forest is Banashankari. The temple is situated in Tilakaranya forest. Today the surroundings have been inhabited by villagers and the place has become a small nice village. It is believed that during a severe famine, goddess provided food and vegetables to the people. Thus the goddess is also known as ‘Shakambhari’ (Shak = Vegetables). Devotees offer vegetables to the goddess.

Get ready with the fresh morning. After breakfast, let’s explore Badami caves. In the caves, you will see some beautifully carved gigantic sculptures. Let’s understand the history behind. Later visit Bhutnath temple complex and Museum.
After lunch visit Mahakuteshwar temple. Return to the hotel by evening and relax.

Highlights

  • Rock cut caves and spectacular sculptures of Badami. These Hindu caves here are carved in 7th-century A.D.by Chalukya Kings. One will get to experience spectacular designs and sculptures carved in the caves. A Small museum erected by ASI displays some magnificent artifacts found in the surroundings of Badami.
  • Mahakut Temple Complex Another temple complex built during Chalukyas reign. Just 15 km from Badami, this temple complex shows some unique sculptures on the walls.

After breakfast leave for the trail of Hampi. Enroute visit Pattadakal and Aihole. After familiarizing with the Chalukya Dynasty, let’s head towards the Vijaynagara Kingdom.

  • Visit another architectural wonder and UNESCO World Heritage Site Pattadakal. Pattadakal can be described as a workshop for architects. This is the only site where one can see various styles of temple architecture.
  • Visit Aihole, the earlier capital of the Chalukya Dynasty. Experience the history of Chalukya King Pulkeshin II through the famous Aihole Inscription. Aihole is another place where the development of temple architecture can be seen. A very important page of history lies here in the form of stone inscription.

After having full breakfast leave for Hampi expedition. Explore ruins of Hampi. Sense the grandeur of capital of Vijaynagara Kingdom.
In the evening return to the hotel and relax.

  • If any sightseeing mentioned is not done due to any unforeseen circumstances then an alternate sightseeing will be done.
  • A traveler may please note that for domestic and international flights, the baggage allowance will be as per respective airline’s baggage policy and weight regulations. Travelers are requested to carry their luggage in accordance with the regulated baggage allowance. Excess baggage will be chargeable and the same is not included in the tour cost. It has to be borne by the traveler.
