Pancha Maha Bhoota Sthalam

Overview

This universe, according to Hindu philosophy, is made up of Panchamahabhuta which are also known as 5 prime elements, Prithvi (Earth), Aap (Water), Tej (Fire), Vayu (Wind), and Avakash (Ether).

Ancient Shaivite tradition in India says, "Shiva is the principle that is the cause of the creation and dissolution of this universe". Therefore, it follows that this fundamental principle holds these five elements. The temples where Shiva is said to have manifested as five elements are Ekambareshwar (Earth) in Kanchi, Jambukeshwar (Water) in Trichy, Arunachaleshwar (Fire) in Tiruvannamalai, Shreekalahasteewshwar (Wind) in Srikalahasti, and Nataraja (Space) in Chidambaram.
The philosophy of Shiv tattva is an essence of the Hindu religion and understanding this essence provides a whole new perspective on our culture and religion.
